Congratulations to students at St. Olaf for raising $2400 and at Stanford for having over 40 participating students in the first-ever Challenge!
The Challenge begins at Stanford and St. Olaf! Check out our blog entry for more!
We're going national with 5 schools! Stanford, Yale, UC Berkeley, Sewanee, and St. Olaf! Five schools for our pilot year, whoo-hoo!
Check out the latest article on Gumballs for Good to learn about how campuses across the nation are creating their own unique challenge!
Microfinance was a hot topic this week on the Stanford campus as actress Natalie Portman came to share her experiences working with FINCA International, a microfinance organization operating with over 600,000 clients around the world! Great to see Hollywood stars use their influence to spread the word about making social impact!
Now with an updated, broader focus: Run the Gumball Challenge at your school!
We've won a $500 grant from Do Something, which rewards students who work to address social issues in the local and global community! Read more about how special we are here! :-P
Applications to run the Gumball Challenge have opened! Deadline to apply is Sunday, October 7th .
We're going to go ahead and put up some stuff early. It's a bit rough. We're looking for your feedback.
Site update and Starter Kit (beta, v0.1, etc.) coming in five days. It's 27 pages long. Double-sided. But it's shiny, so we think you'll like it. Oh, and we'll be launching the blog too. No more one-line updates: Gumball's about to blow some bubbles. (Big pink ones.)
By the way, we've been working hard since June to finish the Starter Kit. Stay tuned!
We're updating our process for disbursing the original E-Week pledges! Starting today, we will loan $25 to each entrepreneur we assist through Kiva, regardless of the overall size of their loan or percentage unfulfilled. This allows us to diversify our portfolio of entrepreneurs as well as distribute our remaining funds more quickly. (It will not affect future funds from the Gumball Challenge.)
Exciting news: We've started the funding process! Click Here to learn more about the entrepreneurs youve helped to fund.
We're featured on Skoll's Social Edge this week! Take a look at the case study and help us out with comments. If you're coming from Social Edge, welcome! Take a look around and don't forget to visit the FAQ before you leave.
The gumballs are ready to roll. Go ahead, bite into the Gumball Challenge and let us know how it tastes. If you're a Stanford student, we want YOU to jump onboard the leadership team this summer and fall.
Perhaps "steadily chugging away" is a better description. We're almost there!
Don't worry, it's exploding behind the scenes. Our team has spent the last two weeks working hard on solidifying our message and building out Gumball Capital's infrastructure. An expanded mission and website will appear soon.
Gumball Capital won the Grand Prize in the Stanford E-Week Challenge, finishing first out of fifty teams! Stay tuned, we're just getting started...
We completed our campus canvassing operations yesterday, but the online donations are still coming in. And we're finalists in the Stanford Entrepreneurship Week Challenge thanks to you! Come watch our presentation tomorrow in Hewlett 200 (where?), from 4:00-5:30PM.
We've passed $3000 from almost 300 donors, in three days. The response has been phenomenal. Someone suggested we ask people in line at Subway to donate, with this line: "Why don't you donate that cookie money to help a woman in Ecuador open a bakery? Then you'd be getting thousands of cookies!"
We passed 100 donors shortly after midnight. Thanks to the Gumball Corps for getting the word out! We're still looking for members-- if you're interested in microlending, social entrepreneurship, or winning the E-Week Challenge, contact us ASAP.
With just 16 donors, we have managed to break $1000! We'd like to take this chance to thank everyone who has donated so far.
Just in: A photo of the first six in-person donations! Yes, in-person donations (which make up the majority of donations, and are posted here as well) are actually being collected on post-it notes!
Current total donated: $774 from 8 donors.
We're looking for Stanford students to join our Gumball Capital E-Week team! If you like what we do and have a few hours to spare before Thursday, contact us. Thanks to Jeff Orlowski, we're doing a crazy project creating value using Post-Its. Right now we're five undergrads--not enough of us. 100 Post-Its? With your help, we're going to need a thousand.
Current total donated: $201 from 3 donors.
Gumball Capital is participating in the EntrepreneurshipWeekUSA Innovation Challenge at Stanford University! Read what we're all about, then pledge a donation by 10AM Thursday.
