Ellen Kim - Chief Executive Officer
Ellen is an MBA student at the Stanford Graduate School of Business. She graduated in 2003 from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology with a degree in Economics. Following graduation, she worked for three years at Citigroup in the Public Finance Investment Banking Division and was an Associate in the department's Technology/Financial Structuring group. During that time she was responsible for modeling innovative debt structures for a variety of clients, including the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, the City of New York, and Catholic Healthcare West. At the GSB, Ellen is co-President of the Social Venture Club and is on the 2007-2008 Executive Team for the Public Management Initiative, ReelImpact.
Kalvin Wang - Executive Director
Kalvin is a Computer Science major, class of 2008, who grew up in Silicon Valley watching the bubble grow and pop. With strong interests in social change, technology, and entrepreneurship, he enjoys chewing on scalable ventures like Kiva, DonorsChoose, and Gumball Capital. He has worked in the past for Hewlett-Packard and various Internet startups. He currently has 25,000 gumballs in his dorm room.
Bilal Mahmood - Vice President
Bilal is a Biology/Economics student at Stanford University. Having studied in both the United States and Pakistan, he has developed a keen ambition in alleviating global poverty. He has served as the Editor-in-Chief of the Paly Voice, Event Coordinator for South Asian Tsunami relief efforts, and Team Director of a Biotech start-up focused on improving intracutaneous injections. In the future, he aims to apply his knowledge and experiences to driving Biotech ventures, particularly in his native land of Pakistan. Bilal is also an avid Muay Thai fighter, and loves cheese pizza.
Rishan Mohamed - Finance Director
Rishan is a senior at Stanford University majoring in Human Biology. Since 2005, he has conducted genetics research in a Stanford neurobiology lab. In 2007 he took a foray into politics, working both for the Speaker of the House in Washington D.C. and the Mayor in San Francisco. This year he will be an RA in an all-freshman dorm, a counselor at the Peer Counseling Center, a member of the Senior Class Cabinet, and the Director of International Fellowships for Stanford in Government, a non-partisan political organization. In his free time, he loves to play pool and guitar.
Sue-Ting Chene - Corporate Secretary
Sue-Ting graduated from UC Berkeley with a BA in Music in May 2007. She currently serves as Assistant Director at SCORE! Educational Centers in Albany. In college, she was the Managing Director for BareStage, a student theater company, and the President of UCCE, a student organization of nine ensembles of singers. She sang in Women's Chorale, played flute in Wind Ensemble, provided backstage support in student theatrical productions, and learned eight instruments in three semesters! Databases, spreadsheets, and organizers are her friends (but not her only ones).
Wendi Chiong - Communications Director
Wendi is a senior at Stanford majoring in Political Science. She is very interested in issues of governance, economic development, and human rights, and currently works with the Stanford Association for International Development and the Center for Democracy, Development, and the Rule of Law at Stanford University. While studying abroad in Chile, Wendi interned with Acción Emprendedora, a microfinance institution that offers loans, business training, and social services to entrepreneurs in the rural areas outside of Santiago. Wendi has also worked with the Voting Section of the Department of Justice in Washington, DC, and the State Controller's Office in Sacramento, California.
Elizabeth Durot - Marketing Director
Elizabeth is a senior majoring in Economics from Atlanta, Georgia, contemplating a career in banking or real estate. Her involvement with Gumball Capital stems from a desire to reach out to individuals who have the ambition and necessary tools to achieve success, but lack the financial capacity to do so. Elizabeth is an all-American and Olympic trials qualifier on the Stanford Women's Swim Team, specializing in distance freestyle, and enjoys cooking, spending time with her two younger siblings, and traveling anywhere tropical!
Doreen Hoang - Campus Operations Director
Doreen is an Economics major, class of 2009. She has been involved on campus with the Stanford Association for International Development and the Six Degrees Journal of Human Rights. Doreen is also very passionate about music, often performing percussion with various musical ensembles, and can occasionally be seen blasting the trumpet at football games.
Jae Won Joh - Special Operations Director
Jae is a published Biology major, class of 2009, with a strong interest in juxtaposing research and service. After attempting to found a pharmaceutical company in 2006, he learned much from having it tanked by IP woes, and hopes to further expand his horizons. He is a certified mediator, self-defense instructor, tutor, computer consultant, and immunology researcher. He's currently trying pick up his tenth language.
Margot Isman - Public Relations Director
Margot is a History major, graduating all too soon in 2008. She has a passion for politics, especially women's issues. She has a lot of experience with campus groups through the Haas Center for Public Service, the Roosevelt Institution and the Stanford Democrats. She is all about microfinance.
Sophia Tu - Outreach Director
Sophia is a Science, Technology, and Society major, class of 2008. She is interested in how information and communication technologies can be used to address unmet social needs and advocate for social justice, and has spent time working with an NGO in Ecuador on these issues. While in southern India, witnessing the transformative effect of microfinance on gender power dynamics reinforced her passion for microfinance. She co-chaired the 2007 Stanford Women's Leadership Conference and is conducting research on women entrepreneurs in the San Francisco Bay Area.
Stefanie Shih - Campus Operations Director
Stefanie is a student of Political Science and Public Policy with a background in Business Administration and Economics from the Class of 2008. She has participated in Stanford-in-Washington and interned at the US-China Economic and Security Review Commission. This year, she serves as the Executive Director for Students Promoting Ethnic and Cultural Kinship and a teacher of health and nutrition for kids. In her free time, Stefanie loves music, traveling, acting, and dancing.

Bruce Deming - Lawyer
Bruce Deming is a corporate partner in Covington & Burling's San Francisco office. Bruce has a broad-based corporate and securities transactional and advisory practice, with extensive experience in domestic and cross-border mergers and acquisitions, private equity and venture capital transactions, securities offerings and capital markets activities.Bruce is active in a number of professional and community-based organizations, including serving as Co-Chair of the Corporations Committee of the California State Bar; President of the board of Support for Families of Children with Disabilities; and as board member or advisory council for Lambda Legal Defense and Education Fund, the Peter M. Cicchino Social Justice Foundation and Our Family.
Ilana Seid - Co-Founder
Ilana graduated from Stanford University in 2007 with a degree in Economics. She is originally from Palau, a small island nation in the Pacific, and she was the sole recipient of the Palau National Full Scholarship for undergraduate education. At Stanford she was a member of the Alpha Phi Omega community service fraternity and Cap and Gown Women's Honor Society. Ilana was also a UN Youth Spokesperson for the Millennium Development Goals in 2006. Her work experience includes internships at the Permanent Mission of Palau to the United Nations and Lehman Brothers in Japan. She plans to move to Hong Kong and return to Lehman Brothers Real Estate Investment Banking in August 2007.
